Cost of Living

We understand that finances are a key factor in your decision to pursue graduate studies. To support exceptional students, we offer the KAUST Fellowship, which covers tuition, housing, utilities, health insurance, relocation costs, and provides a living stipend. This support allows you to focus on your academic goals without financial worries. Similar support is provided to those enrolled in internships and visiting student programs. For more information about the KAUST Fellowship, visit our Fees and Funding page.

Your day to day living costs will depend upon your lifestyle choices, and so will vary significantly from one person to another. However, in a recent survey of our students, they said they spend $1,320 (USD) per month on average.

There is lots to do at KAUST outside of your studies. Some services and activities are free, for example:

  • Public transport on campus, which runs at regular intervals throughout the day across KAUST
  • Access to gyms, swimming pools and leisure facilities (note that some classes charge fees)
  • Community activities inlcuding cultural activities, art exhibitions, sports tournaments, talent shows, quiz nights and more
  • Off-campus transportation to selected destinations
  • Access to two beaches
  • High speed internet across campus

Other expenses, such as food shopping, dining out, personal travel, cinema outings, and specialized activities like golf and scuba diving, will vary according to individual preferences. Many of our Community Clubs are free or offer discounted dues to students.
